Financial Aid

Financial aid is available from a variety of sources depending on the program length.  Courses over 600 hours are eligible for the following financial aid arrangements:

  • Federal Pell Grant.  Applications are available at the Adult Education Office or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Our Federal School Code is 017282.
  • Federal Student Loan Program.  Contact the financial aid administrator to discuss the application process.  These are interest-bearing loans which must be repaid regardless of course completion.
  • Workforce Investment Act assistance.  Mahoning County One Stop will assist qualified applicants with this process.  The One Stop information is available online at www.onestopohio.org or from the financial aid administrator.
  • Veterans’ education benefits.  Veterans or immediate family members may be eligible for assistance through the Veterans Administration.  Contact your local representative or the financial aid administrator. 
  • Scholarships.  Some professional organizations, foundations, and employers offer scholarships for continuing education.  Check with these organizations or your employer.
  • School payment plan.  A school payment plan can be established for monthly payments of tuition and school-related expenses.  No interest is charged for the payment plan.  An application is available in the Financial Aid Office.

Courses less than 600 hours are eligible for the following financial aid arrangements:

Federal Pell Grant.

Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Applications are also available in the Financial Aid Office. Please include the MCCTC school code (017282) on your FAFSA application. You must have a PIN number to sign the financial aid application online. Apply for your PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov. It is recommended that you request your PIN number before completing the FAFSA application online to avoid a delay in processing. Students may make an appointment with the financial aid administrator to process financial aid paperwork. Eligibility is determined by Title IV guidelines. An award letter itemizing the student's financial arrangements is given to the students for approval prior to disbursing any funds. Pell grant monies are applied to a student's account each payment period as long as the student has maintained satisfactory academic progress. Refer to Student Handbook for additional information.

Students Viewing Available School Grants and Loans

Stafford Loans.

Apply online for a student loan at www.studentloans.gov. A Master Promissory Note (MPN) must be completed and loan recipients are required to attend loan entrance and loan exit counseling sessions. Entrance counseling must be completed prior to the student receiving the loan proceeds. Exit counseling must be completed prior to the final loan disbursement or when a student leaves school. Loan counseling can be completed at the website listed above. Contact the financial aid office prior to applying for a student loan for more information. Loans are either subsidized or unsubsidized.

Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan - Based on need and repayment normally beings six months after you leave school. No interest is charged while the student is in school. Maximum amount is $3,500 (1st year) for both independent and dependent students.

Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan - Not need based and repayment normally begins six months after you leave school. Borrower is responsible for interest during entire life of the loan. Maximum amount is $9,500 (1st year) less any subsidized money for independent students and $5,500 (1st year) less any subsidized money for dependent students.

Interest Rates - For loans disbursed between 7/1/11 and 6/30/12

Subsidized - 3.4% fixed

Unsubsidized - 6.8% fixed

Workforce Investment Act funds.

Veteran's training.

Career Development Programs are eligible for Veterans Educational Benefits for students who qualify for these benefits. Apply online at www.gibill.va.gov. Paper applications are available in the Financial Aid Office or at area One Stop locations. Once the VA application has been processed and the student enrolled in an approved program, the Financial Aid Office will process a school certification.

Information on the school policies regarding a student's rights and responsibilies, available financial assistance, institutional policies, completion/graduation rates, campus security and drug/alcohol abuse policy is available to each new student during the required orientation session. Refund Policy:

Career Training Programs: Upon written notification of withdrawal, students will be refunded the full amount, less a $15.00 withdrawal fee, up to the first class session. During the first week of class, upon written notification of withdrawal, 90% of the tuition will be refunded. During the second week of class, upon written notification of withdrawal, 50% of the Tuition will be refunded. No tuition will be refunded after the first day of the third week of class.
