Programming and Simulations

Students in the Programming and Simulations program will learn programming languages, basic web page layouts and computer/networking architecture. The program of study emphasizes designing applications for individual Personal Computers, Web based applications and hardware design. Students will use their skills to create products for businesses, education, training, entertainment, communications and marketing. During the school year students will rotate through Information Support Services pathway as well as Programming and Simulations pathway.

College and related education

The focus of the Information Technology Programming and Simulations pathway is on a seamless transition to a two-year associate degree program. Employment comes after the completion of the associate degree. Interim employment may be secured in position that deal with information management, software development, computer value-added reselling and network installations.

Programming is a way for telling a story and soling a problem. In our class we learn the basics of programming by beginning with Alice. Alice is a programming environment that utilizes 3-D visualization methods, as a way to create a story.

Next we will learn to use C++ and JAVA programming languages to create games and simulations. JAVA will be integrated into the Web Pages you will develop.

Networks and Networking

During your time in the classroom you will be exposed to other computer topics. Networking will cover the basics of a computer network. This is an overview of network types, client/sever configurations and the basics of bandwidth issues. A survey of the components of a PC will be covered. Individual electronic boards will be identified and discussed.

In addition to learning to program you will find using the Microsoft products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access will help you in the course work. These applications will help develop professional documents when developing games and simulations. These products are used across any type of business development. By investigating these products you will be able to become efficient in the use of the tools of business.

Business Concepts

For a successful game product, the basics of entrepreneurship will be discovered by learning about marketing, management, accounting, business law and economics. By focusing on the business principles, you will learn to develop a business plan for marketing your ideas.

Web Page Design

Web pages are created using the HTML code. We use a series of projects to use the power of HTML and XML extensions to the web based code.

Web Page design will be covered using Adobe Dreamweaver as the developmental tool. You will learn to use Dreamweaver to help manage the web pages of a business. By using the various tools in Dreamweaver, you will be able to create an effective way of demonstrating your ideas.

We pages will be used to integrate database results and interactive forms into your web pages.
