Career Ready
College Tech Prep takes the best things about college-prep classes and technical-education classes and combines them into a seamless program that begins in the junior year of high school and continues through an associate or bachelor’s degree at Youngstown
State University.
High school juniors and seniors take specialized technical classes at central sites, such as Mahoning County Career & Technical Center. Most College Tech Prep courses are half-day. Students take their college-prep academic courses at their home schools or at MCCTC. College Tech Prep stresses mathematics, science, communications and technologies.
The College Tech Prep program is sequenced to help students make a smooth transition from high school to college. A national initiative launched in 1991, College Tech Prep is a partnership between high school, Youngstown State University, local business and industry, labor, and a community that supports the need for a technically trained workforce.
In College Tech Prep, there are summer paid internships at local companies for graduating seniors. There are also some college scholarships available to College Tech Prep students.
College Tech Prep has general admission requirements. Contact the MCCTC Guidance Department for details.
